This mount allows you to mount a red dot to your Ruger pistol, while still retaining the ability to co-witness with iron sights. This will give you approximately a lower 1/3 co-witness.
Since all red dots on the market are too thick to work with the original sights, this mount replaces the front sight with a taller one, and provides you a new dovetail to install the original rear sight.
A note about rear sights: This mount was designed around the rear sight pictured on the left. The rear sight pictured on the right is a new version made by Ruger, and it’s a slightly tighter fit in the dovetail. It will work fine, but just be aware it requires more force to install.
Compatibility notes:
- This is not compatible with models that have the thin tapered barrels.
- If you don’t know what diameter barrel you have, if the barrel is the same diameter as the receiver, it’s 1 in. If the barrel is a smaller diameter, it’s .870″. If you’re still not sure, reach out using the Contact Us page and we’ll help you find the right version.
- Ruger has changed the screws used to mount the front sight several times over the years. I designed this front sight to use the original screw that came with your pistol, but it’s impossible for me to test with every single iteration out there. If you run into any installation problems, reach out using the Contact Us page.
- The front sight is designed to use the factory front sight screw hole. If your pistol does not have that hole, I can provide your gunsmith with the proper dimensions. Please reach out using the Contact Us page.
- This mount uses the factory rear sight. If you do not have a factory rear sight, there are many available on ebay. Find one that looks the same as the rear sight in the pictures above.
